We are in a season of shift. The air feels different, the days grow shorter, and many of us are carrying not only our personal struggles but also the heaviness of the world around us. It’s a lot. And if you’ve been feeling tired, disconnected, unmotivated, you are not alone.

What we often call “depression” can also be seen as a spirit of heaviness, an energy that presses down on the body, the mind, and the soul. It does not mean you are broken. It does not define you. It is a shadow, and like any shadow, it cannot exist where light is welcomed in.

Let's Break Down the Word Depression.

Prefix: de- → means “down” or “away from.”

Root: press→ means “to press, to push, to weigh on.”

Suffix: -ion → the act or state of.

So, literally, depression = the state of being pressed down.

When we consider depression as more than just a medical term and view it as an experience,

It involves energy being contained within you instead of being expressed.

Emotions that are restrained or concealed rather than being released.

If de-press means “pressed down,” then the opposite "ex-press" is the medicine.

To express is to release what is within.

Every form of creative release (movement, writing, prayer, dance, speaking, art) is an antidote to being pressed down.

Expression = expansion. Depression = suppression.

Recognize When It Appears.

This type of heaviness often arrives quietly before it becomes loud. It shows up in ways like:

  • Shifts in sleep, Restless nights or oversleeping.

  • Losing joy in things that once brought you life.

  • Feeling weighed down, as though everything takes extra effort

irritability, hopelessness, or emotional numbness.

  • A desire to retreat or isolate.

These are not flaws. They are signals.

When the heaviness lingers, supporting your vessel helps you resist it through:

  • Movement as Medicine: Even gentle walking, stretching, or dancing shakes off stagnant energy.

  • Nourishment: Choose foods that fuel life—greens, berries, whole grains, healthy fats. Reduce the sugar and processed foods that weigh you down.

  • Supplement Support: Vitamin D, magnesium, B vitamins, and omega-3s can help bring balance to the mind and body.

(Always consult with your healthcare provider before adding supplements or making major changes.)

  • Rest in Rhythm: Protect your rest. The spirit of heaviness thrives in exhaustion.

  • Light Therapy: Bringing more light into your mornings helps reset your energy field.

Raising Your Frequency

  • Breath: Your breath is life-force. Inhale deeply, exhale slowly, and remind your body that you are alive, safe, and connected.

  • Space Clearing: Open your windows, burn sage or palo santo, or simply let in fresh air. The spirit of heaviness clings to stagnant environments.

  • Connection: Darkness isolates. Call a loved one, share a walk, or allow yourself to be seen.

A Message To The Collective:

This season isn’t just about you. The world is shifting. Many are carrying heaviness, whether they name it or not. What you feel may be part of a larger collective weight.

The beauty in that truth is this: you are not alone. Every time you choose to ground yourself, you help lift not only your spirit but the vibration of those around you.

Every small act of light is resistance.

Whether it's a breath, a prayer, a walk in the sun, it is a declaration that you choose life and light, and in choosing so,

you declare to yourself and the world that darkness cannot overcome what is rooted in light.
